Campus of the University of Vienna
The Open Science Festival 2025 takes place at the Campus of the University of Vienna.
The history of the Campus dates back to the 18th century, when Emperor Joseph II had the Vienna Great Poorhouse converted into the General Hospital. The 96,000 square metre site was donated to the University of Vienna by the City of Vienna in 1988. Today, students, staff, the Viennese, and guests can find oases of relaxation, opportunities to encounter art and culture, local amenities and culinary delights in the leafy courtyards.
The official address of the Campus is Spitalgasse 2, 1090 Wien - but there are entries and throughways from several sides.
Orientation on the Campus
There are large orientation plans at every entrance to the Campus. You find maps showing the university facilities, restaurants, cash dispensers etc. also on the Campus website.

Travelling to Vienna
Vienna is easy to reach by both train and plane. From the major railway stations such as Hauptbahnhof, Wien-Meidling, Westbahnhof and Wien Mitte-Landstraße, it takes around half an hour to get to the campus. From Vienna Airport, you should plan around 45 to 60 minutes.
Travelling to Campus by public transport
The Campus can be reached fast and easily with public transport. The nearest stations are:
- "Lazarettgasse" (tram line 5) - 3 minutes' walk

Travelling to Campus by bicycle
Vienna offers a bike sharing service, WienMobil Rad. In the official Vienna city map, you can find information about the bike infrastructure. You can select the relevant details under "Karteninhalt" → "Radverkehr".
Bicycle racks are available around the campus, and a self-service bike repair station is located in Court 2.
Travelling to Campus by car
We don't recommend travelling by car. However, a paid parking garage is located directly beside the Campus. Throughout the city, short-term paid parking zones apply on weekdays, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Public parking spaces require payment, and parking is limited to two hours.
For information on accessible parking, visit the official Vienna city map and select "Karteninhalt" → "Parken" → "Behindertenparkplätze".
